North Elementary students and staff participate in a school-wide positive behavior program that reinforces actions which show good character. Our acronym that we will use is S.H.I.N.E. The meaning of each letter is below.
S- Safety First
H- Have Respect
N- North Way
We use S.H.I.N.E for all procedures in the cafe, hallway, restroom, recess, convocations, etc.
Treat People Right! Do the Right Thing!
I will do the right thing today even if I don't feel like it.
I will treat people right today even if I don't feel like it.
Today, I will remember my will power is stronger than how I feel or what I think.
Everyone counts and every day matters at North Elementary.
All things are possible today!
Students are taught the expected behaviors through direct instruction and modeling. Staff members give "doing it right" tickets to students who are caught displaying these behaviors, and the tickets are used in a variety of forms of incentives. Weekly raffles on the announcements and awards each grading period help students celebrate their successes with positive behaviors.
